કનેડાના સૈનિકોની આગમાં મોતની ઘટના શનિવારે એલ્બર્ટા પ્રાંતના કનેડિયન ફોર્સીસ બેઝ Wainwrightમાં બની હતી, જ્યાં એક ઘાસવાળી તાલીમ જગ્યામાં આગ ફેલાઈ ગઈ હતી. આ આગના પરિણામે ચાર સૈનિકોના મોત થયા અને 39 લોકો ઇજાગ્રસ્ત થયા છે.
આગની વિગતો
આગ લગભગ 16:00 (22:00 GMT) પર ભડકી હતી અને બેચેન પવનના કારણે ઝડપથી ફેલાઈ ગઈ. 1st Canadian Division ના કમાન્ડર મેજ-જનરલ Wade Rutlandએ જણાવ્યું કે “The fire was 1km (0.6 miles) away when the wind shifted.” તેમણે કહ્યું કે આગ 30 થી 60 સેકન્ડમાં એક કિલોમીટર દૂર પહોંચી ગઈ હતી, જે સામાન્ય નથી.

કનેડિયન સશસ્ત્ર દળના નિવેદનમાં જણાવ્યું છે કે “while the incident remains under investigation, at this time, there are no indications that it was the result of any terrorist activity”. Rutlandએ જણાવ્યું કે તપાસમાં ઓછામાં ઓછું એક મહિનો લાગશે.
પ્રધાનમંત્રી Mark Carneyએ આ ઘટનાને “one of the worst tragedies for the forces on Canadian soil in peacetime” ગણાવ્યું છે.
